The explosion in users of Apple products has led to a big increase in the number of security breaches uncovered in its products over the past year, research by IBM has revealed.

The Australian Financial Review reports that 3.2% of computer security vulnerabilities reported to IBM researchers over the past year related to Apple products, more than any other technology vendor.

Online content management system Joomla! was next, with 2.7%, followed by the previous leader of the list, Microsoft, on 2.5%.

According to IBM senior security consultant Craig Lawson, the rapid proliferation in Apple products on the market has meant they are now attracting more attention from dodgy online types.

“They are a high target,” Lawson told the newspaper. “Apple is a platform everyone is watching.”
