A majority of Australians believe we are no longer a nation of innovators and are being overtaken by overseas businesses producing the latest consumer technology, new research shows.

More than 70% of 1234 Australians surveyed by research firm The Leading Edge said they do not believe Australia is a world leader in inventing new products and services.

Overall, however, the survey suggests most consumers don’t spend a lot of time pondering the ins and outs of innovation – of those surveyed, only 22% were able to name a specific brand they considered innovative and 45% were unable to recall anything at all.
