Former Google chief executive Eric Schmidt was awarded a $US101 million compensation package when he stepped down last year.

Schmidt stood aside to make way for co-founder Larry Page, who is now the company’s chief executive.

According to a regulatory filing made by the company, Schmidt was given $US101 million – a number 322 times higher than the compensation he received in the previous year.

And while Schmidt only received $US1 per year as part of his salary, his pay has increased to over $US1 million in his new role as executive chairman.
