New iPod designs have been leaked ahead of tomorrow’s press conference at Apple headquarters, which confirms industry suspicion the event would unveil new devices.

The new version of the iPod Nano (the original was designed and released by Apple in 2005) will be the so-called “fourth generation” of the specific player’s line. It is currently the highest selling MP3 player in history.

The updated version boasts a slimmer, taller design with a larger screen capable of playing videos in a widescreen format when the device is tilted on its side, similar to the iPhone.

The leaked plans are being well received by technology bloggers.

Tim Bradbury from iPhoneFreak loves the design. “I must say, the new iPod Nano looks incredibly spiffy and sleek; just enough so that I might go out and get one for myself.”

A new version of the iTunes software is likely to be announced as well. Apple’s iTunes store has surged in popularity, allowing users to purchase and download music, television shows and movies at reduced prices.

It is also rumoured tomorrow’s announcement will reveal a second-generation of the iPod Touch, a player controlled exclusively by a touch screen.

Apple is also expected to announce a large iPod price reduction, in order to distance them from the $199 iPhone and in preparation for the upcoming Christmas season, during which Apple regularly records its highest sales.
