A hotel that helps you beat jet lag

Business trips are always tough, but getting jet lag can make things even tougher.

Business trips are always tough, but getting jet lag can make things even tougher.

To help ease the effects of jet lag, Springwise reports that electronics giant Philips and hotel group Westin have developed a special concept room at The Westin Chicago River North.

Among the amenities in the room are Philips’ new blue-light ActiViva lamps, which provide phototherapy and help people feel more alert, awake and energised. Philips claims that participants in field tests reported an increase of 10% or more in their performance after using these lamps.

Guests can enjoy a eucalyptus shower fizzer, watch a guided-meditation sleep TV program, and enjoy a room-service menu filled with calming snacks such as banana-milk smoothies.

The concept room will be used to test the effectiveness of these facilities, which will then be rolled out across the Westin network. A recent study by the hotel company showed that 55% of its guests suffer from sleep deprivation, and more than 900 guests contact staff each month in search of medical attention.
